Coding has become one of the most popular hobbies and even jobs in today’s technological world. Coding is how people build websites and digital applications. You need to know how to code if you want to build websites. Coding is now being taught in schools across the country in classrooms that have students who are as young as five-years-old. Many coding courses are beginning with kindergartners and continue well into the high school grades.

Why are children learning code? This is a fair question and a common one for many parents who aren’t sure about this course of learning. Children are learning code because it has become such a vital part of our lives. Think about this: just about everything we touch technologically these days has code in it. This includes our cars, phones, tablets, computers, laptops, radios, drones, TVs and more.

When a child learns how to code he or she will build a foundation in technology that they can put to good use when they reach high school, college, and the real world. For example, the student could pursue a degree in app development, website design, or coding. Each of these degrees will require some knowledge of coding. The required knowledge level will vary based on the requirements of each degree.

Children today are growing up in the digital age. They will never know what it was like to live without the Internet, to not have a mobile phone, to not have a tablet, to not have enough computers in the classroom for every student and much more. For this reason alone children are being taught coding in school. Technology is such a dominant part of our lives that it’s better for children to learn how all of these items operate, such as a reservation system that can be used by a doctor’s office or other business.
